Buggy safari or rafting Side: the honest summary
Both trips leave from the same stretch of coast, yet they could hardly feel more different. On the buggy you are in charge of a vehicle on dry, dusty ground for part of a day. On a raft you paddle with a guide aboard on moving water, and the outing fills most of the day, lunch included.
So the question is less which one is better and more which kind of day you are after: an engine and a wheel, or a paddle and a river. Below are the facts each site publishes about itself, with nothing borrowed or guessed.
The buggy safari here
This is our own record for the Side buggy, which is the only thing this site sells.
- Format: self-drive in an automatic buggy, while anyone not driving rides along with a driver as a passenger
- Ground: an 18 km off-road loop of forest tracks and dirt roads, with dust, uneven patches, small stream crossings and splash stops
- Time: approximately 4–4.5 hours door to door
- Start times: 08:00, 11:00 or 13:00 for the activity itself, with your pickup before that
- Cost: €30 for each driver and €15 for each passenger, nothing paid until the tour day
- Who: drivers 16 and over, passengers 6 and over
- Licence: nobody asks for one, because you are driving a private off-road course and not public roads
- Lunch: not part of it, so food and drinks are your own affair
Rafting on our sister site
Our sister site siderafting.de has the Köprüçay rafting day explained step by step, from the morning pickup to the return transfer, along with its current fares. We do not reprint those fares here, so you always read them where they are kept up to date. This is what its records say.
- Where: Köprülü Canyon National Park, on the Köprüçay river, with Side and Manavgat as the pickup hub
- Shape of the day: morning pickup, the drive to the canyon, briefing and practice, rafting, lunch, further activities and then the transfer back; the return time varies
- Experience: none required, and swimming ability is not a condition either, thanks to the life jacket and the guide
- Covered on that site: hotel transfer both ways in air-conditioned vehicles, guided rafting with a guide aboard each raft, safety briefing plus practice, the helmet, life jacket and paddle, lunch by the river, and insurance as the sister site publishes it
- Extras there: all drinks, water shoes (rented or bought at the base), an optional wetsuit for an extra fee, and photos or video
- Children: a child band from 4 to 11, and rafting under 4 is not recommended
- Not suitable there: pregnancy, serious heart conditions, asthma or breathing problems, severe back or mobility problems, recent surgery, or anyone under the influence of alcohol
- Cancellation and payment there: free cancellation up to 48 hours before, payment on the tour day
- A rafting-plus-buggy combination is also sold there; its buggy stage is shorter and is a different product from the 18 km safari on this site
Who each one suits
Rafting suits anyone who wants a full water day. On a hot day, a river and a lunch by the water make for a long, cooling outing, and nobody in the group has to steer anything. It also opens the door wider for families: the sister site takes children from 4, while our buggy accepts passengers from 6 only. Non-swimmers are not shut out either, since the sister site states that a life jacket and a guide cover that.
The buggy suits guests who want to be in control and would rather keep the day compact. After a practice drive you take the wheel yourself, the whole outing lasts approximately 4–4.5 hours door to door, which still leaves an afternoon by the pool or an evening in the old town. It is a dusty, physical drive, and that is precisely what draws the people who pick it.
On health, the two share some cautions. Our buggy is not suitable during pregnancy, and anyone with back or neck problems, recent surgery or a heart condition should ask us first, because the vehicle shakes over rough ground. Nobody under the influence of alcohol or drugs takes part at all. If in doubt, a medical professional is the right person to ask, not a booking page.
How to decide
If water is the whole point of your holiday, rafting is the more natural pick. A buggy safari has splash stops and stream crossings when conditions allow, but it is not a water day. If you want to drive, the buggy is the only one of the two where you take the controls.
Look at the clock as well. The buggy leaves at 08:00, 11:00 or 13:00. Those are departure times for the activity, with your hotel pickup set earlier and confirmed after booking, so the safari slots in around other plans. Rafting, as its sister site describes it, takes the day.
And look at your group. Children aged 4 or 5 can raft with the sister site but cannot ride our buggy, while teenagers from 16 can drive the buggy themselves. If your party mixes ages, a short WhatsApp to +90 536 603 75 84 is enough for us to check the buggy side of the plan.
What the buggy day includes
On the buggy, things happen in a set order. You arrive, register and get an information briefing covering the buggy, how its controls work, the route and the rules, then a safety briefing, then the vehicle walk-through and finally the practice drive. Every driver is assessed there, and the guide's verdict is final. Prefer not to drive, or advised to ride instead? You do the same route as a passenger for €15.
No deposit, no card: you settle up on the day. If plans shift, cancelling costs nothing as long as it is 48 hours or more before the start. Bring a change of clothes, since the base showers exist for good reason.
- Hotel transfer both ways from the nine Side-area resorts we cover
- Buggy, helmet and the guide on the route
- Both briefings, the vehicle walk-through and the practice drive
- Insurance where the operating policy applies it
- Changing cabins and showers
- Not in the fare but sold at the base: goggles and bandanas. Refreshments and any photos or video cost extra too
